#EMDinMyCountry event in Greece
The European Maritime Day (EMD) is celebrated annually in all European countries on the 20th of May. Each year a two-day conference takes place in a European city, and members of the maritime community, organisations, NGO’s, academia, and all interested partners meet to network, exchange knowledge and ideas, and design joint actions for a sustainable blue economy.
Apart from the EMD conference, events are organised all around Europe (#EMDinMyCountry) aiming at raising European citizens’ awareness of the seas and their importance.
Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh), represented by the School of Journalism and Mass Communications (SJMC), participates with a university project entitled:
‘SUSTAINABLE COASTAL AND MARITIME TOURISM.‘
Greek, international, and Erasmus students, who attend the courses ‘Travel Journalism and Communication’ and ‘Mobile Travel Journalism’ at the School of Journalism and Mass Communications at AUTh, research and study ocean-related global challenges, tourism and the Sustainable Development Goals, the European policies, and actions.
They collect travel media content and user generated content about coastal and maritime tourism to examine how coastal destinations are promoted.
Finally, they produce travel content and participate in the #bluesustainabletraveller social media communication campaign to promote a responsible and sustainable travel lifestyle in coastal and maritime tourism destinations.
